Area Police
Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident left him speechless and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
